After six years of meaningful collaborative research and technology development, the Natural Gas Futures consortium will wind down operations in 2024 upon the completion of three final projects.

Natural Gas Futures Joins Forces with NW Natural

Jul 2, 2019 | News, NW Natural, Partnership

On July 1, 2019, Natural Gas Futures (NGF) entered into a partnership with NW Natural, a Portland-based gas utility that serves more than 750,000 homes and businesses across Oregon and Southwest Washington. The partnership—NGF’s first with a non-Canadian entity—represents an important milestone in the history of the consortium, which is always seeking to make strategic connections that enhance the benefit and reach of its impact.

With NW Natural’s support and expertise, NGF will be able to accelerate the advancement of its projects. These projects aim to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the production and utilization of gas from renewable sources, as well as by developing new technologies, models, and platforms that enable the safe and cost-effective use of natural gas in a variety of applications.

Such objectives are well-aligned with NW Natural’s core values, particularly that of environmental stewardship. Among the company’s many initiatives are Portland’s largest climate action project, in which NW Natural is partnering with the city to build and maintain a renewable natural gas fueling station and pipeline infrastructure, and smart energy projects involving the processing of cow manure with biodigester technology at several farms in Oregon and neighbouring states.
